OK so hands up anybody that enjoys Public Folders? Anybody out there enjoyed ‘migrating’ those Public Folders too? Yeah, I know, it’s painful and something that we all despise. I can remember sighing a huge sigh of relief when you ask the client what they want to do with them and they reply, “Oh we are not wanting Public Folders, we don’t really use them anyway”!
But when they do use them and the do want them into Microsoft 365 we all cringe right? Well I figured that it was time to put a video together of how you would achieve this monumentally awful task with the help from a migration tool. The video is less than 30 mins long to perform the complete migration, but that’s because I pause it while I wait for things to happen and the whole size of the migration was under 30MB. BUT, it does demonstrate that it can be done relatively easily.
I cover the main aspects around setting up both the source and target environments. What service accounts you need, the rights needed and how to apply all those things using PowerShell commands. You will see at the end that there is data in the target Public Folders without having to run all those Microsoft scripts to migrate everything over.
